STUDY IN UESTC, STUDY IN CHINA


UESTC is excited to work with you to help make your experience in China as culturally enriching and academically meaningful as possible.


When?
You can either choose one-semester courses program or one academic year program with two semesters. Fall semester starts from September each year and ends at next January; spring semester starts from March each year and ends at early July.


Where?
UESTC is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, P. R. China, and Chengdu is the center of science, technology and culture in western China, it is also the breeding center for giant pandas, birthplace of tea culture, and is named as the City of Gastronomy by UNESCO in 2010.

After a presentation from a represantative from the company, we will be able to visit the installations and learn more about its operations in China as also about its global engagement.

 

About Huawei

Huawei Chengdu research centerHuawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It is the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, having overtaken Ericsson in 2012.

Huawei was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former engineer in the People's Liberation Army. At the time of its establishment Huawei was focused on manufacturing phone switches, but has since expanded its business to include building telecommunications networks; providing operational and consulting services and equipment to enterprises inside and outside of China; and manufacturing communications devices for the consumer market. Huawei has over 170,000 employees as of September 2015, around 76,000 of whom are engaged in research and development (R&D). It has 21 R&D institutes in countries including China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, France, Belgium, Germany, Colombia, Sweden, Ireland, India, Russia, and Turkey, and in 2013 invested US$5 billion in R&D, increased to $6.4bn in 2014.

In 2014, Huawei recorded profit of 34.2 billion CNY (5.5 billion USD). Its products and services have been deployed in more than 140 countries and it currently serves 45 of the world's 50 largest telecoms operators.

We will offer an intensive, unique 4-week program for interested students. All classes and courses are aimed to provide a detailed insight into modern Chinese culture, to offer an insight into Chinese economy and current development, about China's global relations and ints integrations into the world economy. Beside the academic classes, we will offer some visits to local businesses and companies, as also some natural treasures and highlights in Chengdu and Sichuan Province.

 

The detailed program will be defined during the Fall semester of 2016. Below please find a first draft, which is still subject to change, but which should offer you already a first overview on the overall program and the structure of the Summer School.

09:00 - 12:00: Chinese Language Course

12:00 - 13:30: Lunch break
